About This Book
There is a wonderful book on leadership in which one of the verses read. “No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;
By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile.”
If you simply substitute the word “Priesthood” for the words, “leadership position” we see how a book of religious background can be used in leadership to help us become powerful in our position and give us influence and inspiration over the people we manage. This influence is long lasting, sincere and one of the most effective forms of leadership.
So what inspired me to write this book? There have been hundreds of books written on leadership and hundreds of authors that have been very successful and quite frankly a far better writer than myself I simply want to share what I have learned through the school of experience while applying principles I have gleaned from those books I have read. I have been in leadership roles since 17 years of age. I have been fortunate enough to have been trained by many great people and organizations since that young age. I have witnessed first-hand, bosses, superiors and then yes, some outstanding leaders. The difference to me is many people in leadership roles simply manage by position. Of course, we know for the most part that is short lived and produces very little loyalty by their subordinates. From one of my first jobs at a Pizza Hut where I was mentored by a wonderful boss. In that career I was sent to and attended many great leadership classes as I progressed along my career path. The Boy Scouts of America also had some outstanding training which is called, “Wood badge” and Philmont a national training headquarters for adult and youth leaders. Lowes Home Improvement, Home Depot and of course self taught by reading dozens of leadership books and leadership programs on tape. I have also had many wonderful leaders in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint formally referred to as the Mormon Church. Lastly but most important I tribute my desire and fortitude to write this book to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as he is the perfect example that was set before us.
